Commission - three-bed sleeper train carriage
Peter Lindley-Hughes was appointed lead designer for a bespoke project to transform a derelict former HST Mk3 Trailer Composite 46014 Caledonian railway carriage into something special - comprising of nine carriages forming the Chairman’s Set - repurposed coaches in classic 1950s British Rail ‘blood and custard’ livery
Named “Moidart”, he was tasked with designing a unique home-from-home in a luxury three-bedroom railway carriage. Three cosy bedrooms were carefully designed with subtle details which moved the finished design from ordinary to luxury
Custom laser-cut brass mood lighting and vents, bespoke brass carpet dividers, themed stained glass oval windows to the bathrooms and bespoke timber marquetry for each room created a truly first-class experience.
Described by a national publication as “designed with considerable ingenuity to maximise space throughout; there is a feeling of space in spite of the carriages compact dimensions … it all feels minutely considered and understatedly luxurious.”
The project required a complete refurbishment which saw Peter and colleagues working closely with design artisans, joiners, specialist electrical engineers, furniture designers and interior train operators to create a masterpiece of design and delight.
